Where do you start?? Buy some bits? Draw it out on paper? Get the angle grinder and go for it? Decisions decisions..
I found the best way was for it to evolve, think about it think some more, and think again.
Strip the arse end off the bike and save what you need and sell the rest, buy some tube (good stuff not cheap shite) cut to length, bend accordingly and add Mr Welder to the equasion.
Just a bit more bend here and there trim to length tack it together, stand back, look. decide, change, retack and finally it looks right.
Building a frame is the easy bit but mounting the mudguards and deciding on the lights etc is a real bitch also you dont want the mudguards to look flimsy but you dont want them looking like the forth bridge. Lights too are pain in the arse do i want shop standard jobbies or bespoke bates with frills on em.
Fuck fuck fuckety fuck what a nightmare!
Mini cats eyes look good but mounting them is a bunch of arse unless you can find a couple of old pressings at work e voila. result.
Cut and weld the propshaft then reralise the engine is rubber mounted and have to do it all again, use the slidey bit and spring load it, send the necessary bits for painting then ,make a one off exhaust from scratch using some bends you have lying around..(at work for a job that was meant for canada!! jfp lol) an old end can using some pressings and a bit of rolled stainless and bobs yer trannie aunt.
Frame goes off the Bournes (fuggin good job done by them). for coating a lovely gunmetal with deep laquer, P&P supplied the seat cover.
Pick everything up and put it together carefully. This was the time consuming part, also converting the the old reliant axle to disc brakes easy peasy.
Its been on the road for about 3 months and is so much fun i can tell you, back brakes can lock up so easy and getting to grasps and tuts abound from the pedestrians as the tyres squeal like a banshee with her tits caught in the cutlery draw. You simply ride around with a smile like you got a flip top head.
Back to the drawing board with my next project.
